Shihan Adam Boshoff
Adam started his karate journey when he was 7 years old under, now appointed (Chief instructor) Hanshi Attie Coetzer and later on trained under the late Hanshi Hans Haupt from the age of 13, Hans Haupt was the original western founder who trained directly under Tenshinkan founder Mamoru Miwa Kancho.
He is currently a Japanese graded and recognized 6th Dan black belt within Tenshinkan karate and he has visited Japan numerous times to further his training along his current 35 years of actively training and involvement experience within the organization.
He started instructing as a junior instructor at the age of 16 under the guidance of Hanshi Hans Haupt and further pursued his passion for teaching more intensely after finishing his studies.
He has competed in multiple Provincial and National championships as well as internationally at the All-Japan Championships.
Some of his standout achievements as a senior male black belt competitor.
2016 Kancho Cup kumite champion
2019 All Japan Champion in the elite Tenshinkan devision and the receiver of Kancho Cup (senior) in Japan by Kancho Miwa.
2023 & 2025 Sarmaf National Grand Champion (overall winner)
Adam Boshoff received his Shihan appointment from the World Chief Instructor Kancho Miwa in 2022 after he graded for his 6th Dan.
He runs and owns his own Tenshinkan dojo within the Kempton Park area in the east rand where it has become his passion to instil and grow future leaders and champions with the same love that he has for the art.
What does the rank of Shihan mean?
Master Instructor
SHIHAN (shee-han): A formal title meaning master instructor or teacher of teachers. Very few people in the world have achieved this ranking.
His mission is to enrich his students’ lives to not only mentor champions but to future-proof students through discipline, etiquette, and building strong-minded individuals through karate.
All of his students excel at the art and his passion for transferring knowledge is second to none.
